Herbalist Safety

The long traditional use of herbs is one of the key reasons that they are generally considered safe to use. Adverse effects would normally have been observed and precautions identified. Formalised training such as the degree training undertaken by the Medical Herbalists at Woodland Herbs ensure that your practitioner is aware of the important features of each herb.

Although herbs are generally safe to use, your herbalist will be aware of the situations where a herb may not be appropriate. These include:

•    Where a herb is contraindicated  due to a prescription drug the patient is taking.
•    Where a herb is contraindicated due to the patient’s medical condition.
•    Where a herb may be used with caution and the patient’s health monitored on an ongoing basis.
•    Where a herb is suitable for short term use due to a patient’s condition, but use should be discontinued after the condition has changed.

When the herbalist makes up their prescription they will take these factors into account.
